About—Cherry Tam

Founder, Pianist, Interdisciplinary Educator

A pianist at heart, Ms. Tam embodies a passion for innovation in art, wellness, and education. The potential of Web 3.0 technology intrigues her, inspiring the creation of a new space that merges traditional arts with modern technological advancements, specifically aimed at enhancing end-of-life wellness care.

Beginning her piano journey at the age of 2, Ms. Tam has performed extensively and achieved recognition worldwide. She is a scholarship recipient for three consecutive years in the Advanced Music Performance course at HKU, where she studies piano performance under the esteemed pianist Ms. Nancy Loo. Her performances span local venues and international stages. In January 2024, Ms. Tam held her debut solo concert at S’way Recital Hall as part of the S’way Music Studio’s Young Artists Series Sponsorship.

Ms. Tam’s journey in hospice care began as a volunteer pianist with Amicis Sinfonia. Through a series of mini concerts at the Jockey Club Home for Hospice, she became captivated by the transformative power of music for end-of-life patients and the fragility of human existence in the face of death. This inspired her to take on a role as a fundraising intern at the hospice under the Society for the Promotion of Hospice Care, where she worked on several innovative fundraising projects, including launching an online shop and co-hosting events with large companies, social enterprises, and NGOs. She is now embarking on a journey in hospice and death education, hosting an online series that promotes awareness of end-of-life issues, with the goal of removing the stigma surrounding death in Hong Kong and traditional Asian cultures.

Additionally, Ms. Tam is the co-founder of Empath, a startup dedicated to enhancing the mental well-being of the elderly through an AI chatbot. Empath has gained recognition by being shortlisted for the HKSTP Seed Programme, allowing her to explore the application of AI technology within the elderly community. By organizing interactive AI sessions for seniors, pitching ideas to investors, and engaging with professionals to explore new opportunities, Ms. Tam has developed a strong passion for the application of AI innovation in social contexts.
